UPDATE: Reston Teen Dies From Gunshot Injuries

Boy was shot Friday; Gun may have belonged to acquaintance, who has been charged.

A Reston teen who sustained a gunshot wound on Friday died on Sunday, Fairfax County Police said.

Juan Carlos Godoy, 17, of Cameron Crescent Drive, Reston, was shot at a home on Marginella Drive Friday morning. Police arrested Javier DeJesus Martinez, 26, of 2274 Marginella Dr., an acquaintance of the victim for possession of firearm by an illegal alien shortly afterward.

There have been no additional charges placed at this time and the investigation is continuing, police said.

Original story: A 17-year-old Reston boy is in the hospital in life-threatening condition after sustaining a gunshot wound on Friday.

Fairfax County Police were called to a home in the 2200 block of Marginella Drive at around 10:15 a.m. for a report of a person who had been shot. The injured person was flown to the hospital and police began their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the injury. Police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said Friday the shooting may have been accidental.

Detectives identified the teen and are investigating the incident. They are still determining all of the circumstances surrounding the incident and whether or not it was accidental or suspicious in nature.  

Javier DeJesus Martinez, 26, of 2274 Marginella Dr., an acquaintance of the victim, was charged with possession of firearm by an illegal alien.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be pending, police said.
