Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus and husband Brad Hall visit Washington West Film Festival to talk about working together - and how a kid heading to college inspired their short film.
In the short film Picture Paris, Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays the kind of suburban mom who might live in Reston. As Ellen, Louis-Dreyfus is an affluent woman on the brink of being an empty-nester. To get a grip on her feelings, she becomes obsessed with a trip to Paris and all things francais - French language, French cooking and the idea of French romance. Then things take a dark, surprising and hilarious turn. Louis-Dreyfus and her husband, Brad Hall - the film's director - were at Bow Tie Cinema Reston Town Center 13 Saturday for a screening and talk about Picture Paris at the Washington West Film Festival. Hall said that the inspiration for the film came from the couple's real life after their older son left for college two years ago. "…

Documentary about Virginia couple's fight against interracial marriage ban is opening-night film at Reston's Washington West Film Festival.
When filmmaker Nancy Buirski read Mildred Loving's 2008 obituary, it immediately struck her that she should make a movie about the accidental civil rights icon. Loving, who was black and native American, and her husband, Richard, who was white, made history in 1958 when they were arrested for violating Virginia's ban on interracial marriage. The case eventually went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which in 1967 unanimously struck down the law in Virginia and the remaining states with anti-miscegenation laws. Buirski, meanwhile, succeeded in making a documentary about the Lovings. The Loving Story is the opening night film Thursday at the Washington West Film Festival in Reston. "Story can change the world" is the theme of the first Washington West Film Festival, which will kick off in Reston on Nov. 3.
