Saturday: 7th Annual Southgate Community Day

Food, fun and community this weekend.

Restonians of all ages are invited to the Saturday's 7th Annual Southgate Community Day,. The festival runs from 1 - 6 p.m. at the Southgate Community Center, 12125 Pinecrest Road, Reston.   The day includes a basketball tournament, music, inflatable games, food vendors and information about community resources. Other special activities include: Solos and Duets from Dogwood Elementary School; Zumba with Vanessa Ledesma; Southgate Community Freestyle Battle; Super Hula Competition and performance; Tzu Chi Foundation; Supercomputer, and HK Lee. Last Chance: Seats at RCC's MLK Day Lunch

Update: The event is sold out as of Friday afternoon. There are a limited number of seats available for the Reston Community Center's 28th Annual Martin Luther King Day lunch and keynote speech with former NAACP chair Julian Bond. The lunch is Sunday at 1 p.m. at Reston Community Center Hunters Woods. Admission is free, but advance registration is required. Click here for more information and registration info. Celebrating World Cultures in Reston

Two weekend festivals - the Reston Multicultural Festival and the Latino Festival - give residents a taste of other countries.

This weekend is all about celebrating diversity and world culture in Reston. Saturday's Reston Multicultural Festival brings music, entertainment, family fun and food to Lake Anne Plaza. The activities begin at 11 a.m. with a naturalization ceremony for some of the area's newest U.S. Citizens. After that, the festival, sponsored by Reston Community Center, gets underway. Southgate's Cabellos Honored by County

Community Center director one of three earning Onthank Award.

Richard Cabellos director of the Southgate Community Center in Reston, was awarded the Onthank Award by Fairfax County at Wednesday's Board of Supervisors meeting. The Onthank Award is the highest honor the county bestows on employees. Also earning the award: Judy Flaig, management analyst, Office of Elections. Flaig was recognized for her "extraordinary initiative" during the state and local election district reapportionment; and Stephen Sinclair, senior utilities analyst, Department of Cable and Consumer Services. Sinclair was recognized for his efforts to safeguard consumer interests in the areas of utilities and taxicab rates. He is chief of the Public Utilities Branch.
