Seahawks boys basketball looks to build on last year's 15-win record.
South Lakes High School's four boys basketball captains know how it feels to lose. Clayton O’Neill, Evan Keys, Junior Ebott and Brandon Kamga played some of their best basketball down the stretch last year and helped the Seahawks end the regular season on a five-game win streak. Then it all came to an abrupt end. Thomas Jefferson, which won just eight regular-season games, squeezed out a 66-62 upset victory over South Lakes in the first round of the Liberty District tournament to prematurely end the Seahawks’ season. South Lakes’ players have not forgotten. "They all got a little taste of what it’s like to lose last year,” said third-year South Lakes head coach Andrew Duggan. “Clayton [O'Neill] knows what it’s like. He was talking to our…

South Lakes High School girls basketball coach Christy Winters Scott molding strong character as well as strong player.
When Christy Winters Scott took the girls basketball coaching job at South Lakes High School in 2005, she inherited an embattled squad that didn’t win a single game the previous season. Just three years later, in 2008, her team produced 19 wins and she earned Liberty District Coach of the Year honors. Much can be said for Winters Scott’s immediate impact on the court, but the former University of Maryland basketball star's blueprint for success heavily focuses on molding high-character players off the court. “I feel that if you have a strong purpose in whatever you’re doing, you’re going to be successful at it,” said Winters Scott, who coached at George Mason and Georgetown before returning to her alma mater. “Purpose is power, and it’s …

The Seahawks host Marshall on Tuesday. As head coach Jessica Dowd enters her second year at South Lakes, the Pennsylvania native looks to build off of last season’s success and make South Lakes a legitimate Liberty District contender. “I like to tell the girls that whatever happened last year doesn’t matter. It’s a brand new season and things are going to change,” said Dowd, who inherited a squad that one one game in 2010. “They’re going to have different challenges so they need to …

Seahawks look to best last year's 15 wins.
South Lakes’ 2012 volleyball season got underway with a 3-1 loss to Westfield Wednesday, but the Seahawks, under sixth-year coach Cheri Hostetler, are looking to improve upon last year's 15-10 record. With the loss of just four seniors from 2011, Hostetler remains optimistic that this year’s team can make an early-November push and compete for the competitive Liberty District title. “One thing that we have is really great team chemistry,” said Hostetler. “That’s hard to get sometimes, but a good number of the players have played together now for a couple of years and we expect to have that as an advantage.” The Seahawks will have to replace First Team All-Liberty District middle hitter and team captain Sarah Delaney, who now plays at …

Having the pleasure to have met Christie she is an information age leader who clearly understands the importance of athletic values and the educational process of teaching leaders.
