Former Dunkin' Donuts employee is accused of second-degree murder of his boss last year.
The murder trial of Abir Ali, the former Reston Dunkin' Donuts employee accused of beating his boss to death last year has been postponed to May 28. Ali's trail was supposed to begin on March 18. A Fairfax County grand jury ruled in December that there is enough evidence to try Ali, 21, for second-degree murder. Ali is accused of beating to death the 40-year-old co-owner of the Dunkin' Donuts that opened at Hunters Woods Willage Center three days before the June 9, 2012 altercation that led to Patel's death. In a preliminary hearing in Fairfax County General District Court in late November, prosecuters called two witnesses who shed light on the possible motive and method in the incident. FCPD Det. Family and friends of murdered Reston woman remember her as a good friend and 'angel.'
Friends and family of Jennifer Pearson remember her as a person who could be counted on to show up at a party with a salad and chicken wings and who looked forward to meeting her baby boy in June. Pearson, 38, was found dead Monday in her apartment on Waterside View Drive in Reston. She is believed to have died of wounds to her upper body before her apartment was set on fire. The fire is still under investigation by the Fairfax County Frie Marshal. The next day, her husband, Timothy Connor, 31, shot and killed himself near his mother's house in Texas. Police say husband of Jennifer Lynne Pearson, pregnant with the pair's child, apparently committed suicide in Texas.
Update, Wednesday 5:30 pm News4 Washington is identifying the man dead in Texas as Timothy Connor, 31, of Reston. The Washington Post reports that deputies in Bandera County, Tex., where Connor's mother and stepfather live, were alerted that Connor may have fled there Monday. Officials in Texas found Connor's car and followed Connor to his mother’s house, The Post reported. Police in Texas said Connor pulled into his mother’s driveway and shot himself in the head in front of deputies. News4 spoke with Pearson's sister, Sarah, who said Jennifer Pearson had been married less than a year and that she was five months pregnant when she was killed. Fairfax County Police have identified the dead woman found at the scene of Monday's fire in the 12000 block of Waterside View Drive in Reston as Jennifer Lynne Pearson, 38. Pearson lived in the apartment at 12002 Waterside View Drive #22, where her body was found. She was pregnant at the time of her death. Police said Pearson had trauma to her upper body. The Fairfax County Fire Department was called to the Waterside Apartments at 6:15 a.m Monday when a neighbor reported smelling smoke. Firefighters forced their way into the second-floor apartment, where they discovered Pearson's body, along with a fire, police public information officer Shelley Broderick said. Abir Ali, charged with second-degree murder in the June death of Dunkin Donuts co-owner Bharat Patel, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Fairfax County General District Court on Tuesday. The hearing has had four postponements so far. Ali, 20 at the time of Patel's death, was an employee of Patel's at Dunkin' Donuts at Hunters Woods Plaza when it opened on June 6. Three days later, after a report of a fight near Patel's apartment on Winterthur Lane, Patel was found dead with upper body trauma. The preliminary hearing for Abir Ali, charged with second-degree murder in the death of Dunkin Donuts co-owner Bharat Patel, has been continued to Oct. 31. Ali, 20, appeared in a Fairfax County General District Courtroom on Wednesday. Prosecutors asked for the continuance because they are waiting for additional autopsy results. This was the third postponement in the case. Ali was an employee of Patel's at Dunkin' Donuts at Hunters Woods Plaza when it opened on June 6. Three days later, after a report of a fight near Patel's apartment on Winterthur Lane, Patel was found dead with upper body trauma.
