New locally-owned Thai restaurant takes former Greenberry's space.
Hibiscus Thai opens its doors for eat-in and takeout customers on Monday. The new restaurant is located 11790-A Baron Cameron Ave., in the space at the Home Depot shopping center formerly occupied by Greenberry's, which closed last year. Owner Kenny Zweibon says it was the dream of his wife, Jessica, who has worked for other area Thai restaurants for 20 years, to have her own business. So the Zweibons gave the former coffee shop a good makeover - creating a light, bright space with colorful artwork, a full bar and an outdoor dining patio. "We spent about three years looking for a good location," says Zweibon, who will also keep his day job at he Army and Airforce Mutual Aid Association in Reston. "We feel we got a great location, a great …

Reston's Barnes & Noble will shut its doors for good Thursday. Most of the merchandise that has been on markdown since December is gone from the store and many shelves have been dismantled. There is some merchandise still available - such as CDs in the music department and bestseller-list books - as those will likely be shipped to a nearby location's inventory at the last minute. In any case, time is running out if you have been meaning to visit. The Spectrum Starbucks will remain open. The Container Store is set to open in the bookstore space this fall. Lerner says it has no immediate plans to begin redevelopment of large parcel near Reston Town Center.
While plans for a massive redevelopment at Reston Spectrum were approved by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors earlier this month, it could take years - even decades - before the Spectrum morphs into the mixed-use development that planners envision. Lerner Enterprises, the owner of the shopping center that runs from New Dominion to Baron Cameron along Reston Parkway, is offering no timetable for redevelopment. The company says it is excited about the future, but has no immediate plans to begin building. “Lerner is pleased that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors recently approved the redevelopment plans for The Spectrum at Reston Town Center," the statement reads. "The longterm vision is to redevelop the current shopping center …

Wall Street Journal reports bookstore chain plans to close about one-third of stores over next 10 years.
Reston's Barnes & Noble is preparing to close its doors at the end of next month. Is this part of a trend for the national bookstore chain? Yes, according to the Wall Street Journal. In a story published Monday, Mitchell Klipper, chief executive of Barnes & Noble's retail group, told the WSJ the company will have 450 to 500 stores in 10 years, down from 689 as of Jan. 23. It also currently has a separate chain of 674 college stores. Read a synoposis of the subscriber-only story from CNET here.
