Group making strong fundraising push to try and make up estimated $100,000 gap.
The South Lakes High School Athletic Boosters are making a strong fundraising push to try to make up a budget shortfall that may interfere with the school's to get turf fields installed this year. The boosters last week send a letter to members asking for a minimum of $100 per family to offset what they say is a projected $100,000 gap. The boosters are considering taking out a loan, the letter from South Lakes Boosters President Ron Parisi said, but the more the group can raise the less the loan amount will be. Reston Association's Board of Directors voted Thursday to give no more than $50,000 to the effort to build two synthetic turf fields at South Lakes High School. The donation depends on board approval of an upcoming memorandum of understanding between the partners (SLHS, Reston Youth Association Football, Reston Community Center and Reston Soccer) that better understands how RA will be able to use the fields. RA says its donation will come from a budget amendment. The board also discussed its support being contingent on the partners raising enough money for two fields at the school, not one. RA's board had pledged $100,000 nearly a year ago, but it is rescinding that offer, as well as a plan approved last year to have the donation come from…
