Team of 14-15 year olds advances to national championships in April.
The Reston Raiders Bantam Major Ice Hockey Team won the AA Virginia State Championship March 3 and will be representing Virginia in the USA Hockey National Championship in April. The Raiders, comprised of players born in 1998, earned their way into the National Championship by beating No. 1 seed Ashburn Xtreme in a best 2-out- of-3 series. Despite falling to the Xtreme during the regular season, the Raiders rose to the occasion and took a 1-0 series lead last week after winning an exciting Game 1 in a shootout. Game 2 was held in Reston last Sunday, with the Raiders commanding a solid 6-2 victory. The team will now go on to compete in the USAH National Championship to be held in Charlotte, NC from April 3-7.
