Seahawks look to best last year's 15 wins.
South Lakes’ 2012 volleyball season got underway with a 3-1 loss to Westfield Wednesday, but the Seahawks, under sixth-year coach Cheri Hostetler, are looking to improve upon last year's 15-10 record. With the loss of just four seniors from 2011, Hostetler remains optimistic that this year’s team can make an early-November push and compete for the competitive Liberty District title. “One thing that we have is really great team chemistry,” said Hostetler. “That’s hard to get sometimes, but a good number of the players have played together now for a couple of years and we expect to have that as an advantage.” The Seahawks will have to replace First Team All-Liberty District middle hitter and team captain Sarah Delaney, who now plays at …

Even though South Lakes High School's varsity baseball team has started the season with two losses (13-3 to Herndon and 16-0 to McLean), coach Galvin Morris remains optimistic about the young team. With only five seniors on this year’s roster, South Lakes will depend on the contribution of its underclassmen throughout the season. Senior athlete Ryan Forrest, who is a also a top South Lakes wrestler, led Seahawk batters last season in batting average (.346) and hits (18) and posted an on-base percentage of .435. “Ryan brings his wrestling mentality to our baseball program. Forrest brothers both earn Liberty District championships as seven Seahawks advance to regionals.
Brothers Ryan and Josh Forrest both won their weight classes to lead South Lakes to a third-place finish at the Liberty District Wrestling Tournament Saturday at Langley High School. Senior Ryan Forrest (160) became South Lakes' first-ever four-time District champion. Sophomore Josh Forrest (170) earned his title by pinning his opponent in 48 seconds. South Lakes coach Bruce Hall says the team's 144 points was the most ever by the Seahaks in District competition. Langley won the team title (216 points), followed by Marshall (192).
