Principal Brendan Menuey keeps his promise to dance Gangnam Style.

Lake Anne Elementary School principal Brendan Menuey danced Gangnam Style on top of the school Tuesday morning. Meuney was there in celebration of the student reaching 30,000 Dolphin dollars - a reward system for good behavior. "Dr. Menuey is the best, " said Lake Anne PTA President Blake Kohn. "He loves the kids, he knows how to inspire a positive community, and he is willing to make a fool of himself to do so.

Lake Anne ES Lego Team Wins Virginia Title

Team takes first in Division I state tournament in Harrisonburg.

The Cellar Dwellers, a Reston-based FIRST Lego League (FLL) Division 1 team, placed first in the Virginia state championships held last weekend at James Madison University in Harrisonburg. The team is comprised of Lake Anne Elementary School students Sara Leong, Andy Schauer, and Jack Barrett; LAES alumni Nico Lagendyk and Andrew Barrett; and Max Butler from Vienna Elementary. FLL is a world-wide robotics competition for elementary and middle school-age children. This year, 610 teams competed across the state, including more than 360 Division 1 teams. Gallery: Lake Anne Elementary's Dolphin Dash

A day for fun and fundraising - and a special guest from the Washington Redskins.

Lake Anne Elementary School on Friday held its inaugural Dolphin Dash - a Fit for Funds fundraiser. The PTA has raised $9,000 for the school, and the money will go to things like SMARTboards for Lake Anne's new classrooms. This event encourages children to exercise and stay fit.  Every class ran for 15 minutes in the front parking lot to  accompanied by music and parent/staff cheerleaders. Lake Anne welcomed a special guest -  Washington Redskins Defensive Lineman Stephen Bowen.  Bowen gave the students high fives as they ran and signed autographs. Passion Turns to Legacy at Lake Anne ES

The books of children's reading specialist Bobbi Vest are donated to Lake Anne Elementary's library to continue her legacy of teaching children to read.

Bobbi Vest spent much of her life dedicated to teaching future generations how to read. The Reston resident worked as a reading specialist for Fairfax County Public Schools, starting at Dogwood Elementary and working many years at Centreville Elementary. As part of her work and her passion, she amassed a huge collection of children's books that she used in her work, providing the children she met with books she had hand-picked to appeal to their interests and advance their level of reading. When Vest died unexpectedly last year, her husband Bill decided Bobbi's collection of children's books needed to be put to good use. Wednesday morning, Bobbi's passion to help children learn to read culminated in the donation of about 1,000 books to …

Suicide Threat Leads to Police Presence

Distraught man near Lake Anne causes search, lockdown.

Fairfax County Police said Lake Anne Elementary was briefly on lockdown Friday morning as police were trying to find a man who was distraught and threatening suicide. Police said the man was threatening to harm himself about 11 a.m. Friday. Witnesses told police the man went onto one of the bike paths in the Lake Anne area. Police said they did not know if the man was armed. The police helicopters and the K9 unit were called to help locate the man, who was later safely found. They said the school was on lockdown as a precaution.
