Reston Crime Report: Robbery on North Shore

Juvenile suspects stole cash and groceries, police said.

Police are looking for suspects in a robbery of a man who walking on North Shore Drive on Monday night. The victim, a 23-year-old man, told police he was walking in the 11600 block of North Shore Drive about 10:30 p.m. He said he was walking home when three unknown juveniles approached him. They searched the victim, stole his cash and groceries, and fled, he said. The victim was not injured. In separate and unrelated incidents reported by the Fairfax County Police: BURGLARY, 1700 block of Lake Shore Crest Drive, April 14, 10:30 p.m. A resident reported someone forced entry through a sliding glass door and stole money. Missing 5-Year-Old Cameron Serafin Found Safe; Mother Rebecca Arrested

The boy was found in a hotel in Las Vegas with his mother, who has been arrested and is being held as a fugitive from justice.

Fairfax County Police announced Wednesday that Cameron Serafin, the Fairfax County boy who has been missing since April 7, has been found safe and his mother Rebecca has been arrested. Investigators had been looking for Rebecca Serafin and her 5-year-old son since she did not return the boy to his father's home in Great Falls as scheduled.   “Following information they developed after viewing the video, LVPD [Las Vegas Police Department] detectives located Cameron and Rebecca Serafin at another hotel close by,” according to the Fairfax County Police Department release. “Cameron is safe and in good condition. Police: Missing 5-Year-Old Boy Seen in Alabama

Police have issued a felony warrant for Rebecca Serafin, who allegedly fled the state with her son.

Fairfax County police said they have confirmed a sighting of Rebecca and Cameron Serafin at an airport in Birmingham, Ala. Investigators have been looking for the Fairfax County mother and her 5-year-old son since last week, when Rebecca Serafin did not return the boy to his father's home as scheduled. The boy's photo was disseminated throughout the greater Washington area. As a result of the confirmed sighting in Alabama, which happened Friday, police have obatined a warrant charging Rebecca Serafin with felony parental abduction, accoring to a news release. Reston Crime Report: Another Chopper Search

Police search for - and find- driver who fled traffic stop.

Fairfax County Police took to the skies and ground Monday night to try and apprehend a driver who they said fled from officers at a traffic stop. Police said an officer initiated a traffic stop at North Shore Drive and Wainwright Drive about 10:25 p.m.  The vehicle drove away from the officer. The driver stopped on a dead end street and continued to flee on foot. The helicopter and a K-9 team assisted in searching for the suspect. The driver was identified and several charges are pending, police said. Fairfax Police Searching for Missing 5-Year-Old Boy

Cameron Serafin, 5, was supposed to be returned to his father on Sunday; authorities have issued a warrant for his mother.

Five-year-old Cameron Serafin was supposed to return Sunday to his father in Great Falls. But he never came home, say Fairfax County police, who asked for the public's help Thursday in finding the missing child. According to police, Cameron is believed to be with his mother, Rebecca Serafin, 32. Serafin was supposed to return the child to his father on Sunday. A warrant has been issued for Serafin’s arrest on charges of custodial interference, a misdemeanor, police said. Detectives say they have reason to be concerned about the boy's welfare. Police Report: Helicopter Search, Assault

Incidents reported by the Fairfax County Police through April 1. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Police were unsuccessful in a helicopter and K9 search for a burglary suspect on Monday night. A resident of the 12500 block of Thunder Chase Drive told police that about 11:50 p.m. someone entered the home and stole a purse. The suspect made a forced entry through a rear door. The helicopter and a K-9 team assisted in searching for the suspect, but no one was located. In separate and unrelated incidents: BURGLARY, 11500 block of Southington Lane, March 29, 10:20 p.m. A resident reported someone entered the home and stole jewelry. FCPD's First 5k Walk to Raise Awareness for Crime Victims

Event at Fairfax Corner honors 2013 National Crime Victims' Rights Week.

The Fairfax County Police Department's Victims Services Unit will host its first-ever 5k walk to raise awareness about crime victims in the county, and to honor 2013 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the FCPD announced recently.  The free event is hosted by the Victims Services Section of the Fairfax County Police Department and the Fairfax County Law Enforcement Foundation. It kicks off Sunday, April 21 at 4:30 p.m. at Fairfax Corner. Police invite the public to join the "caring professionals that support local victims of homicide, trauma, sexual and domestic violence, child physical and sexual abuse, stalking human trafficking and suicide as they walk together." Crime Blotter: TV Sale Turns Into Crime Scene

Incidents reported by the Fairfax County Police for the week ending March 21.

A man selling TVs from his home ended up becoming the vicitim of a robbery on Wednesday. A man and a woman arranged to look at the TVs in a home in the 10800 block of Leesburg Pike Wednesday night. Once in the home, the man attacked and tied up the 36-year-old resident. The victim told police other men came to the home, tied up the housemate, and assisted in stealing several items from the home. No one was seriously injured. Fairfax Gets New Acting Police Chief

Edwin Roessler will take over as acting chief as search for permanent Fairfax County police chief continues.

The Fairfax County Executive appointed Lt. Col. Edwin Roessler the acting chief of the Fairfax County Police Department on Tuesday afternoon, making him the third chief the department has seen in five months. Roessler will take over for Lt. Col. James Morris, who has been serving as acting chief since October 2012, when former chief David Rohrer was appointed deputy county executive for public safety. Morris was named chief of the Town of Vienna police last month; he starts next week. Roessler will receive an annual salary of $183,815. He starts Saturday. Roessler’s appointment comes after 24 years of law enforcement. He began his career in the New York City Department of Investigation before moving to Fairfax County, where he has served …

Fairfax County Police report four break-ins in South Lakes area.

Fairfax County Police say at least four break-ins were reported at homes in the South Lakes area last week. Entry was made through unlocked doors, police said. Two of the incidents were reported on March 8 and two on March 13. Here are the details: March 8, 4:30 p.m., burglary in the 2200 block of Glencourse Lane. A resident reported someone entered the home and stole a purse. Entry was made through an unlocked rear door.
