Battle of Ox Hill Commemoration Sept. 1

Fairfax County Park Authority will help present daylong program for 150th anniversary of Civil War battle.

Revisit the Battle of Ox Hill/Chantilly on Sept. 1. The 150th anniversary of that historic Civil War battle will be commemorated by the Fairfax County Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee and the Fairfax County Park Authority. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Ox Hill Battlefield Park, 4134 West Ox Road, Fairfax. Admission is free. Parking will be at the County Government Center with shuttle bus service provided to event site. The 150th commemorative event will include flag presentations, childrens' activities and crafts, artillery and infantry demonstrations, period medical displays, civilian Civil War re-enactors engaging the visitors to the park, musical concerts, wreath layings, and special guest speakers. Looking at Reston Area's Civil War History

Join local historians for a look at 1862 in Fairfax County.

As part of the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War,  the Reston Historic Trust  is exploring the early history of Reston.   Join Civil War Historians Jim Anderson and Jim Lewis at the Reston Community Center at Lake Anne on July 26 for a special program: “1862 – The Civil War Returns to Fairfax County.” The 7 p.m. presentation will cover: The importance of the Emancipation Proclamation.
