More than 100 jump into Lake Anne for a good cause.
An enthusiastic crowd gathered at Lake Anne Plaza on Saturday for the fifth annual Freezin' for Reason Polar Plunge. The event, founded here by the Toth family of Reston, raises money to support Camp Sunshine, a summer camp in Maine for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Who is ready to freeze for a reason? More than 100 people are expected to jump into the chilly waters of Reston's Lake Anne on Saturday at the fifth annual Freezin' for a Reason Virginia Polar Dip. The event helps raise money for Camp Sunshine, a residential camp in Maine for children with life-threatening illnesses. Polar Plunges are held in 11 locations on the East Coast. The Reston event was founded by Gail and Bill Toth, whose daughter, Jennifer had a rare liver tumor as a toddler. Jennifer is now a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania in the School of Nursing studying to become a Pediatric Oncology Nurse Practitioner. Area family and friends to get chilly at Lake Anne for a good cause.
Take a look out your window. Does it make you want to pull on your swim suit and jump into the nearest lake? Or would that be crazy? Some crazy/wonderful people will be “Freezin’ for a Reason” on Feb. 5 by leaping into Lake Anne (after the ice is broken up and pushed aside). The fourth annual Polar Dip at Lake Anne Plaza supports Camp Sunshine, a year-round camp in Maine that provides a retreat and support to families of children with life-threatening illnesses. The Toth family - Gail, Bill, Jennifer and Julianna - is the driving force behind this Virginia Polar Dip. The Toths have firsthand experience with the Camp Sunshine experience. Kelsey Good, a high school student from south Reston, volunteered at Camp Sunshine for a week last summer. She wants to continue to support this wonderful camp by jumping into Lake Anne on Feb. 5th.
