A Fairfax County Grand Jury will decide on Dec. 20 whether there is enough evidence to put Abir Ali on trial for the June murder of Bharat Patel on Winterthur Lane in Reston. Abir Ali, 20 at the time of the incident, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Bharat Patel, the 40-year-old co-owner of the Dunkin' Donuts that opened at Hunters Woods Willage Center three days before the June 9 altercation that led to Patel's death from blunt force trauma. In a preliminary hearing in Fairfax County General District Court on Tuesday, prosecuters called two witnesses who shed light on the possible motive and method in the incident. FCPD Det. Abir Ali, charged with second-degree murder in the June death of Dunkin Donuts co-owner Bharat Patel, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Fairfax County General District Court on Tuesday. The hearing has had four postponements so far. Ali, 20 at the time of Patel's death, was an employee of Patel's at Dunkin' Donuts at Hunters Woods Plaza when it opened on June 6. Three days later, after a report of a fight near Patel's apartment on Winterthur Lane, Patel was found dead with upper body trauma. The preliminary hearing for Abir Ali, charged with second-degree murder in the death of Dunkin Donuts co-owner Bharat Patel, has been continued to Oct. 31. Ali, 20, appeared in a Fairfax County General District Courtroom on Wednesday. Prosecutors asked for the continuance because they are waiting for additional autopsy results. This was the third postponement in the case. Ali was an employee of Patel's at Dunkin' Donuts at Hunters Woods Plaza when it opened on June 6. Three days later, after a report of a fight near Patel's apartment on Winterthur Lane, Patel was found dead with upper body trauma. Abir Ali, the suspect in the June 9 death of Reston Dunkin' Donuts co-owner Bharat Patel, will have his first preliminary hearing in Fairfax County District Court on Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. Ali, 20, a resident of Prince George's County, was arrested there on June 14. He is charged with second-degree murder. Ali was an aquaintance of Patel's. He helped Patel, 40, open the new Dunkin' Donuts on June 6. Fairfax County Police have made an arrest in the death of Bharat Patel, who was found dead near his apartment in the 11900 block of Winterthur Lane on Saturday. Detectives arrested Abir Ali, 20, of Prince George’s County, MD at noon on Thursday following a search of his home. Ali is being held by the Office of the Sheriff in Prince George’s County and will be extradited to Fairfax County to face charges, said police public information officer Eddy Azcarate. No injuries in apartment fire near Hunters Woods - on the same block where a suspicious death occurred on Saturday.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue evacuated an apartment building near Hunters Woods Village Center after an electrial explosion caused a fire shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The explosion occurred in the electrical supply to 11913 Winterthur Ln., a three-story apartment building in the Winterthur development. Flames shot up around the outside of the building, but did not enter the building, said incident commander Mike Deli. There were no injuries, and power went out in the 11913 building as part of the surge. Personnel from Dominion Virginia Power shut off the power to several other nearby buildings as firefighters got the flames under control. Hunters Woods Dunkin Donuts co-owner found dead near his apartment early Saturday.
Fairfax County Police said an autopsy will be conducted Monday to determine the exact cause of death of Bharat Patel, who was found dead on Winterthur Lane in Reston early Saturday. Patel, 40, was a part-owner of the Dunkin' Donuts that opened last week at 2280 Hunters Woods Plaza. His body was found about 2 a.m. Saturday in the 11900 block of Winterthur Lane. "Mr. Patel was found behind bushes and power box near the complex’s main office," said Fairfax County Police officer Eduardo Azcarate. "That is also the street where Mr. Patel lived." Bharat Patel found dead after possible fight on Saturday; Police now have a sketch of potential suspect.
Fairfax County Police detectives have released a composite sketch and Wanted Poster of a suspect in the suspicious death case of Bharat Patel, who was found dead on Winterthur Lane in Reston early on Saturday. The suspect is described as an Indian male, 25-35 years old; approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall with a thin build. The suspect was wearing a gray long-sleeve shirt with a thin orange stripe down the sleeves and blue jeans.
