South Lakes Comes Back In Frantic Minute To Beat Yorktown

Junior guard D.J. Christian sinks late free-throws to give the Seahawks a 56-54 win, the first for Coach Andrew Duggan.

With 1.9 seconds left in the game and the score tied at 54 in South Lakes' opener against Yorktown, forward D.J. Christian stood 15-feet away from redemption at the free-throw line. Thirty seconds earlier, the junior, who had a team-high 21 points, was called for an ill-timed technical foul. In a seldom-issued penalty, Christian was called for hanging on the rim too long in an attempt to try to put back a missed layup by teammate J.D. Wallace. Yorktown went to the free-throw line and made both technical free throws to tie the game. After a defensive stop, Christian wanted the ball in his hands, drove hard to the hole and was fouled by Yorktown's Jack Earley with a shade less than two seconds left in the game.
