Seahawks top TJ, tie McLean.
The South Lakes High School girls soccer team played to a double-overtime tie at McLean on Tuesday and defeated Thomas Jefferson on Thursday. The Seahawks goal was scored by freshman Karen Reyes. In another Liberty District game against Thomas Jefferson, the defense was a strong presence in the 1-0 victory. The Seahawks goal was scored by sophomore Molly McGrath, who utilized a strong cross assist from Reyes. The Seahawks play again Tuesday at Madison High School.

South Lakes High School's baseball team notched an 8-3 win over Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday at home. The game was the final Liberty District meeting between the Seahawks and the Colonials as the Colonials will be changing districts next year. Seahawks pitcher Bobby Rae Allen picked up his third win of the season with a complete game performance. The action started early with the Colonials getting runners on first and second with no outs in the first inning but were denied any runs by great Seahawks pitching and defensive play. The Seahawks wasted no time scoring. Matt Wojciechowski led off the bottom of the first inning with a single and scored on a JoJo Lear double for the first run of the game. Reston Association pondering plans for lighting Field No. 1, which will allow night Little League games but may also anger neighbors.
What will the future of Brown's Chapel Park look like with a lighted field? Depends who you ask. It will look like night baseball for Reston Little League players, but it could also mean light pollution for nearby residents. Reston Association approved more than $282,000 for ball field improvements at Brown's Chapel as part of this year's budget. Brown's Chapel contains three baseball fields. Much of the money will be spent on overall field enhancements, but RA also wants to install lighting on field No. 1 - which is the Little League field and the field closest to the Brown's Chapel building - as well as in the parking lot. The South Lakes girls lacrosse team is winding down its regular season schedule. The past week saw four games against Liberty District foes. The Seahawks lost all four and are now 3-6, 1-4 Liberty District. * The Seahawks were defeated by Madison, 17-6 on Monday. The Warhawks rushed out to an early 12-0 lead, but the Seahawks came back with goals from Megan Greatorex (three), and one each by senior Maria Leith, junior Sarah Hawes, and senior Kenzie Hughes. The South Lakes High School boys soccer team improved to 8-1 after defeating McLean 2-0 on Tuesday, It was the fifth straight shutout for South Lakes, which is tied with Langley for first place in the Liberty District with a 3-0 league record. Senior defender Dylan Katz scored both of South Lakes goals against McLean. He opened the scoring in the 22nd minute of the first half on a header off a perfect throw-in by defender Zack Deker. Katz secured the game in the 50th minute with an insurance goal for his fourth score of the season, by heading in a corner kick served into the box by senior defender Elvin Arbaiza. Seahawks' home schedule ends with an 8-3 loss to James Madison.
The South Lakes boys' lacrosse team ended their 2013 home schedule Monday night with a 8-3 Senior Night loss to the James Madison Warhawks, dropping the Seahawks to 5-5 for the year. Despite opening the scoring late in the first period, South Lakes went to halftime down 4-2 and could not close further as James Madison scored the only three goals of the fourth period for the final margin. South Lakes has two road games left in the season, at McLean and Langley, before the Liberty District Tournament begins May 3rd. Soccer looking toward final games of regular season.
The South Lakes High School girls soccer team defeated Lee 4-1 on a nonconference game on Wednesday. Sophomore, Elise Andrich, scored on a penalty kick, followed by goals by freshman Audrey LaMothe and sophomores Molly McGrath and Sara Bekenstein. Friday's game against Thomas Jefferson was rained out. The Sehawks are now 6-1-1 (1-0-1) and play at McLean on Tuesday. Boys soccer - The 7-1 Seahawks, ranked No. 3 by the Washington Post, have won seven straight and will host McLean on Tuesday.

RA will give SLHS sports fields project $50K as one-time donation.
The Reston Association Board of Directors voted on Thursday to give a one-time, $50,000 donation to the Fairfax County School Board to be used for building artificial turf fields at South Lakes High School. The board had voted three weeks ago to not enter into a written user agreement with the SLHS turf partners. The board said it had concerns about the longterm requirements that may have required RA to contribute additional money for maintenance years later. South Lakes is hoping to break ground on the $1.4-1.8 million project in May. It has received financial support from several community groups - including Reston Community Center, Reston Soccer, Reston Youth Association and the SLHS Athletic Boosters. Seahawk commits to play at NCAA Division III Connecticut College.
South Lakes High School volleyball player Maddie Youngren will play at NCAA Division III Connecticut College next year. The six-footer is the second Seahawk in the last two years to move on to college competition. Sarah Delaney South Lakes volleyball coach Cheri Hostetler said at a signing ceremony at the school on Wednesday that the South Lakes program has come a long way in the last few years. "I am so excited for Maddie," the coach said. "She started playing volleyball year-round freshman year. This season she helped us beat Langley for the first time ever. Maddie helped start that tradition." Connecticut College's women's volleyball team went 25-4 in 2012.
