Dmytro Solomatin, 27, was sentenced to 10 years for first-degree assault, but Solomatin’s time behind bars could amount to five. Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Ronald B. Rubin suspended half the sentence. "I do find the defendent has accepted responsibility for his actions," Rubin said. The judge also rendered concurrent sentences for Solomatin’s weapons offenses: a mandatory five-year sentence for a charge of using a handgun in commission of a felony and a one-year sentence — which Rubin suspended in its entirety — for illegally carrying and transporting a concealed …
Judge says Fairfax officer had no reason to pull over Babbitt, who was charged with driving while intoxicated last year.
A judge dismissed drunken driving charges against the former Federal Aviation Administration chief Thursday, according to The Washington Post. The Post reports that Fairfax City General District Court Judge Ian O’Flaherty dropped the case after watching video of the Fairfax City traffic stop. In it, Reston resident Randy Babbitt makes a left hand turn off of southbound Lee Highway. "In the process, Babbitt crossed double yellow lines and a northbound lane, but he did not drive on the wrong side of the road as Fairfax City Officer Mike Morris alleged in the criminal complaint." The judge also considered a breathalyzer reading of .007, just under the state's legal limit. He did not consider later breathalyzer results that put Babbitt over …

SPIRIT, a nonprofit organization, provides horseback riding lessons for children and adults with disabilities. When Wallace walked over to the horses everything seemed normal at first, until he realized three of them—Spirit, Lucinda and Tess—had been hurt. At first Wallace, seeing only Spirit’s gash, thought the horse had caught herself on the fence but found nothing that could have given her the cut. Upon inspecting Lucinda and Tess, he realized something was awry and contacted the program’s executive director, Davorka "Dada" Suvak. The animals were taken …
