Well, that's just about right, the average of the top 10 CEO salaries in VA is 390x that of theRead More average worker salary of $45,000. US Avg is 475x. Don't know why the average worker is complaining about wage stagnation and lack of jobs. Poor CEOs must work so hard to keep all that money out of the tax man's hands and the grubby hands of the worker! How can they possibly survive otherwise?

That must be why NG is dropping retirees insurance.

When taxes are imposed on various industries then to stay in business the prices increase on theRead More consumer! Obamacare , gas taxes, payroll taxes, tolls, the proposed soda and candy tax , your tobacco tax is 75% of what the product really costs! Commercial Property tax increases! Do you people see what's going on here? This country is being destroyed by the Democrats! It is starting to resemble The a Soviet Union! We should change the name of this country to the USSA!

Mark, Your words are absolutely disgusting. Please do not use this comment thread as a vehicle toRead More spew your racist mentality. And for your information, food-borne illnesses come from agriculture, period. All around the world, including in the U.S. Lastly, your hatred for people of colour does not mean that you understand disease, at all. Good luck in life.

Is there a contact number for Refraction? Went to their website but could not find a number
Mary Ann Barton (Editor) March 25, 2014 at 11:39 am
Hi Karen, I think their Web site offers a "chat mode" that's not always manned; but I'veRead More sent a note to their PR person and will post a number if/when I get it.
Mary Ann Barton (Editor) March 25, 2014 at 04:45 pm
Karen the best way to contact them is via email at this address: info@refractionpoint.org

As of April 2012, it appears that all of the 25,000 light fixtures will have to be replaced, at anRead More estimated cost of $54 million. The replacement work will be done at night, and will require lane closures or closing of the entire tunnel for safety, and may take up to 2 years to complete.

Not in the mood to fight the crowds at the grocery store? There are lots of alternative using delivery or pick-up. Photo courtesy thefrugalhousewife.com

Peapod struggles with delivering within the selected delivery window, being out of items ordered,Read More and damaged goods. I won't use their service again as I've been burned too many times. With that said, Peapod is still light years ahead of Safeway, which is completely unreliable. Sick driver? No groceries -- at all. I also had to have my bank fight with them to get my money back. Safeway has terrible ratings in general, so I shouldn't be surprised. I shouldn't have bothered. It's less hassle to shop in person, even when shopping for 5 people.
jamdogg March 10, 2014 at 09:14 am
Peapod delivers--just not the groceries you ordered. I've ordered from them a couple times a whileRead More back. One order was short several items. Another order was short items I had ordered, but included several items I didn't order. I don't think these services are really up to par for larger-type orders, and those of us who have to shop for families are the larger order customers. If you just want 10 things, they are probably good--but then, do you really not have time to hit the grocery store for just 10 things?
Mary Ann Barton (Editor) March 10, 2014 at 09:40 am
Good points; personally I would want to use a service that takes coupons and where you can get aRead More "club" discount too.
Safeway could be bought. (Patch file photo.)
Fairfax Watcher March 7, 2014 at 03:39 pm
WELL...............no worries for those Kroger lovers or haters as SAFEWAY went to Albertson'sRead More owner, CERBERUS. CERBERUS plans on reforming Safeway stores to look/feel like Trader Joe's.

It's always that "evil Walmart" with Lefties...
Dave Jennings March 9, 2014 at 08:15 pm
Cerberus will probably close at least half the chain as most equity firms are apt to do in order toRead More up profit and create a stream of returns that will up their chances of passing it off to someone else in a few years.

Yes, an investment in economic development. MD & P.G. Co. are investing in National HarborRead More including a gambling casino attraction and other amenities along with the creative investment strategy listed here in this article. Old Town has looked ahead to capitalize on the attractions on the other side of the river by increasing hotel space and working with National Harbor to get visitors to use Old Town as a destination during their stay across the river. Fairfax County across from National Harbor on the US Route 1 or Richmond Highway corridor seemingly anticipates gamblers in need of fast and easy loans given the proliferation of Car Title Loan Businesses popping up like mushrooms. Can't imagine the VA legislature concerning itself with much more than bills that seek to limit human rights, abortion rights, economic rights, health care rights, environmental rights, voter rights or any other progressive effort that give more rights to citizens. Just another bass ackward state of the old Confederacy that can't fully acknowledge modernity.

wondering if Tall Oaks could benefit from having s strip mall with just kids stuff..bowlingRead More alley..not upscale..and a something like a Chukie cheese..someplaces where teens can safely hang out…It'll never happen I know .not a money maker ..but a good idea anyway i think...
Private Person February 10, 2014 at 12:17 pm
Those hang-out arrangements have been tried and failed over the decades (as have most of the low-endRead More eating joints). Hudgins used to run one, and it was the biggest failure of all. There are any number of community centers in Reston, the library, the YMCA, before and after school programs, the pools, tennis courts, nature centers, and many more we surely are overlooking. Tall Oaks for retail is a disaster and has been for decades. Even the most recent renovation, by the same entity that redid Hunters Woods center, is a flop.

Starting Wednesday, restrictions will be loosened on advertising happy hours in Virginia. Patch file photo

Wow, I would have loved to look into the thinking process that came up with these restrictions. IRead More honestly can't imagine what harm those "unacceptable" notices would have over the "acceptable" ones. Just plain weird.
