Langston Hughes is Reston's middle school. It serves grades 7 and 8, and is home to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program. The IB program encourages children to think across subject disciplines and requires that students perform community service.
The school has an active PTA, a drama department and a wide range of extracurricular activities. There is a peer mediation program and a supervised after school program.
Langston Hughes also contains a Gifted and Talented center and special education programming.
