Restaurant Week Specials, Free Skating and Hoops for a Good Cause

Also, Northern Virginia Restaurant Week is winding down.

1. Last chance - Hit the restaurants at Reston Town Center for Northern Virginia Restaurant Week. The Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the event, which features special lunch menus from $20.13 per person and dinner menus through Monday, Aug. 26.

Among the Reston restaurants participating; Mon Ami Gabi, Morton's, Vinifera, Tavern 64, American Tap Room and Big Bowl.

2. Hit the books - 
 Stop by Reston Regional Library this weekend for the annual children's book sale. The proceeds raise money for the Friends of Reston Regional - and you get to get some great books.  More details here.

3. Shoot hoops - A Hughes Middle School eighth grader has organized Jack's Hoops for Hope, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament that will benefit Cornerstones (Reston Interfaith).  Teams of fifth graders through adults will play. The tourney is Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Southgate Community Center. To join the cause, donate, or get info to be a spectator, click here. 

4. Play with the Pups (and maybe adopt one) -To celebrate National Dog Day (Aug. 26), the Fairfax County Animal Shelter is hosting special events, including a doggie pool party, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Adoption fees are also half off through the end of the month. Details here.

5. Cool off at the Ice Rink -  Reston SkateQuest is holding Customer Appreciation Day Saturday at 1 p.m. There will be free skating, a moonbounce, food and drinks, games and other family fun. More details here.
