Inaugural 2014 Mighty Mile Kids Race Set for Saturday in Reston

Race is for ages 6 to 14, with a half-miler for ages 4 and 5 and a 100-yard "tot trot" for the toddlers.

Potomac River Running will kick-off its inaugural 2014 Mighty Mile Kids Race Series Saturday in Reston.

The race is specifically designed for kids ages 6-14 (see full schedule below for younger children).  Kids can enjoy three opportunities to challenge yourself to finish a mile, beat your time, or race your friends. Registration is $15.

Children are encouraged to bring classmates, siblings, sports teams and to have fun and encourage each other.

When/Where: Saturday, March 29 at Reston Town Center: 11900 Market Street, Reston, VA

Races are run by age group heats. Due to the number of runners expected, race organizers say no "parent buddy runners" are allowed and ask that you please not enter your child if she/he cannot run the 1-mile race unaccompanied.

SCHEDULE:

Race day will kick-off with the 12-14 year olds at 8 a.m., with each additional heat starting every 15 minutes.

8:15 a.m.: 10-11 year olds (1 mile)

8:30 a.m.: 8-9 year olds (1 mile)

8:45 a.m.: 6-7 year olds (1 mile)

9 a.m.: 4-5 year olds (approximately 1/2 mile)

9:15 a.m.: Tot Trot (approximately 100 yards)

SWAG: All race participants will receive a race T-shirt and all race finishers will receive a commemorative Mighty Mile race medal.

AWARDS: Following the final race, awards will be presented to the top three girls and boys finishers in each race (all tot trot finishers will receive a ribbon).

PHOTOS: Free high-resolution race photos will be available for download from the Potomac River Running Flickr page. Race organizers will send an email notifying you when the pictures are ready to be shared.

Please note: You must pick up your packet at one of the designated times. Packets will not be mailed after the race. In addition, awards must be claimed within two weeks of the conclusion of a race.
