This Week in Reston: Free Movies, Holiday Gift Wrapping, Orchesta Sing Along and More

A look at what's happening the week of Dec. 16 to 22.

Senior Movie Day, "Love and Honor." Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 9:15 a.m. to noon, Reston Bow-Tie Cinemas,  11940 Market Street. Based on a true story of a soldier who, after being dumped by his girlfriend, decides to return home secretly from war with his best friend to win her back. Free movie with refreshments provided. Door prizes are distributed prior to the movie. Movies follow Fairfax County Public Schools for winter weather cancellations.

Holiday Gift Wrapping at the Hyatt Regency Reston, 1800 Presidents Street, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Beautiful holiday gift wrapping in the Hyatt hallway off the Market Street entrance, sponsored by Hyatt Regency Reston and Appalachian Spring. $3 and up. Drop off gifts and pick up later. Donations benefit Kids R First, which serves Northern Virginia kids in need of school supplies and mini-scholarships.

United Christian Parish Movie Night, "Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont." Friday, Dec., 20 at 7 p.m. An exquisite cast of British actors tells the story of a remarkable inter-generational relationship between a 76 year-old woman (Joan Plowright as Mrs. Palfrey) and a 26 year-old young male writer (Rupert Friend as Ludo). Bring your grandparents, your grandchildren, your mothers, your fathers, your daughters, your sons and your friends to see a film that reveals what it means to love kindness, to care for each other, and to do justice. UCP is located at 11508 North Shore Drive. 

Free Brush Chipping, Saturday Dec. 21, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Reston Association Central Services Facility, 12250 Sunset Hills Road. RA’s brush chipping program offers you a place to bring your brush for chipping at no cost. RA Guidelines state that no brush may be dumped on RA property. Just drop off your brush and RA crews will chip it for use on RA open space.
Please brush only. (Branches should be less than 4 inches in diameter.) No grass clippings, dirt, trash, paper, vines, thorns or other debris. Brush may be dropped off at any time during the days listed. No contractors.

Holiday Play/Sing Along with the Reston Community Orchestra, Sunday Dec. 22, at 4 p.m. at the Sunset Hills Montessori building, 11180 Ridge Heights Road, Reston. Bring your instrument and sit and play with the orchestra, or bring your voice and sing the holiday favorites. This is a free family event which will benefit HELPING HUNGRY KIDS, an award-winning charity that provides weekend meals for eligible children. Please bring single-serve food items, especially non-refrigerated milk cartons, or other items. Refreshments will be be provided.
