Girl Scouts Week Celebrations

Association 51 Girl Scouts celebrate 100th Anniversary with variety of events.

This month, Association 51 Girl Scouts celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the founding of our organization (March 12, 1912) with a variety of activities. AMong them: a Cosmic Bowling party for teens and an open house sponsored by SU 51-7.

On March 10, Ambassador Troop 878 of SU 5-5 sponsored a Cosmic Bowling event at Bowl America Dranesville for Girl Scouts in grades 8-12 throughout Association 51. As part of the event, the girls collected about $80 for the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund.

“Quite a lot of older Girl Scouts attended and got a chance to have a fun evening of their own,” said Cyndie Lipari, a co-manager for SU 51-5 and treasurer for Association 51. “Our thanks goes to the Troop 878 Ambassador Girl Scouts for taking the initiative to create and run a successful teen event!”

On March 12, the 100th birthday of Girl Scouts, SU 51-7's open house at Floris Elementary School included swap-making activities; creating a video about Girl Scouting; a timeline featuring local Girl Scouts, including several former leaders who returned to celebrate the 100th; cake and cupcakes; and more. At the event, organizers also collected donations of birthday party supplies for families being helped by Reston Interfaith.

“At 7:12 p.m., all present joined hands in a special Promise Circle to commemorate Girl Scouts' 1912 founding,” said Arielle Masters, SU 51-7 co-manager.
