Wrestling: South Lakes Improves to 15-4

Seahawks defeat Marshall, Stone Bridge and Madison.

South Lakes High School's wrestling team went 3-1 last week last week to improve to 15-4.

South Lakes beat Liberty District rivals Marshall, Stone Bridge and Madison, but lost to McLean.  The team finished 7-1 in dual meets against Liberty District opponents this year.

The Liberty District tournament is Feb. 1 and 2 at McLean High School.

Here are the highlights from Saturday: 

SLHS 42, Madison 31 - Josh Forrest lost his second match of the season when Nick Hoy defeated him 6-5 in overtime.

South Lakes got pins from Nick Willie, Mike Shoebottom, Alex Smurda, Terry Petersen, and Chris Maginniss to win. 

SLHS 50, Stone Bridge 24 - Richard Walsh and Domity Dahn both pinned their opponents and won their first matches of the season.  South Lakes also got pins from Alex Smurda, Kevin Argueta, Anas Fain, and Chris Maginniss 

The leading Sehawks wrestlers are now Josh Forrest (25-2), Chris Maginniss (23-3), Mike Shoebottom (20-7) and Alex Smurda (20-7). 

The Seahawks have their only home meet of the season on Wednesday.

It is also Senior Night. The Seahawks will be celebrating the accomplishments of seniors Kevin Argueta, Tim Kim, Matt Kelly, Chris Maginniss, Tommy Rugari and Mike Shoebottom.
