Who Will Win the 'Baron Cameron Bowl'?

South Lakes football travels to Herndon Friday for annual matchup.

They may play football in different conferences and one team may have the historical advantage, but the annual Baron Cameron Bowl brings out the neighborhood spirit for and Herndon High Schools.

The schools are geographically close and, of course, North Reston residents attend Herndon High School. Many of the students grew up attending the same elementary schools and playing youth sports together.

South Lakes (0-1) will travel to Herndon (also 0-1) on Friday for the annual matchup. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

"We’re approaching the game just like any other," said South Lakes' second-year coach Marvin Wooten. "We understand the history of the two schools and we’re aware that there will be some extra emotions out there, but at the end of the day this game will not make or break our football season. We expect the boys to go out and execute the game plan. "

"We had a good week of practice, and I feel that we’re prepared to go out and put on a good performance," he said. "We know Herndon will be prepared! I’m sure Coach Day will have the guys ready to play come Friday. Our boys will give it everything they have."

- its 11th win in the series since 1999. That game was supposed to be played at South Lakes, but heavy rain from Tropical Storm Lee postponed the game by a day, as well as moved it to the turf field at Herndon.

But upperclassman who play for the Seahawks still remember the 2010 game, when for their first Baron Cameron Bowl victory since 2002.

South Lakes (Liberty District) is coming off a 51-13 loss at Westfield. Herndon (Concorde) lost to Langley 42-12 last week.
