Weekend Planner: Holiday Events, HHS' Brigadoon & More

Holiday events are everywhere in Herndon.

FRIDAY

• Helping Others Home for the Holidays - JJ Deli is hosting a fundraiser for Fisher House that also offers attendees a chance to buy holiday gifts from local businesses, socialize with friends, get tips for the holidays and a chance at a grand prize raffle basket. 

• Free Basketball Clinic - This free basketball clinic at Herndon Middle School is for children in 5th through 8th grade. Players should bring a good indoor basketball and have appropriate basketball shoes. 

• Herndon High School Presents Brigadoon - Herndon Drama brings the Lerner and Loewe musical Brigadoon to the stage. With singing, dancing and action, the show will entertain the whole family. Tickets are $10. Additional performances will be Dec. 1 and 2. 

• Herndon Towne Square Singers Present Decembers Past - The Herndon Towne Square Singers' annual winter concert will feature holiday music from the group's 30-year history. Additional shows will be Dec. 1 and 2. 

• Zumba Master Class - This Zumba master class is open to all and will feature Zumba Education Specialists April Smiles and Loretta Bates. 

SATURDAY

• Herndon Holiday Homes Tour - The annual Herndon Holiday Homes Tour features five homes throughout Herndon dressed and ready for the holidays, including a Sears house. The tour is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

• Herndon Holiday Sing-Along and Tree Lighting - The annual tree lighting and holiday sing-along will take place in downtown Herndon at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The event kicks off with Christmas carols and holiday music, followed by the tree lighting and a visit from Santa himself. 

Holiday Shops Benefit Local Elementary Schools - Fox Mill Elementary, Crossfield Elementary and Hutchison Elementary schools all have holiday shops this Saturday. Fox Mill's features both adult and children craft shops and a secret shop; Hutchison Elementary will feature a toy shop for children's siblings and friends; and Crossfield will have a craft fair and bake sale. 

• Feliz Navidad: A Christmas Choral Concert - St. Timothy's Episcopal Church will host a festive Christmas concert highlighting Spanish holiday music on Saturday. Music will feature songs that are Meso-American, Southwestern, Basque, Argentinean, Cuban and Puerto Rican. 

SUNDAY

• Herndon Holiday Arts and Crafts Show - The annual arts and crafts show at the Herndon Community Center will feature more than 100 craft vendors from around the area. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

• Family Chanukah Menorah Workshop - Home Depot and Chabad of Reston-Herndon is hosting a family workshop to make your own Menorah and Dreidel. Participants can also take part in an olive press workshop to press their own oil and enjoy hot Latkes.

And don't forget the Living Nativity at Southview Community Church this weekend - Friday and Saturday, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. each night. Live music, animals to see and pet (camels, sheep, goats, etc.), and hot chocolate and cookies! It's at 2620 Reston Parkway in Herndon.

Come to Herndon's Holiday Homes Tour tomorrow! (Saturday). Tickets are on sale at the Community Center, the Herndon Florist and ArtSpace. It's a great way to kick off the holiday season!
