Swimming: Sennett Earns Spots in State Races

Senior will swim two individual events and one relay at Class AAA State Championships.

Senior Emily Sennett will lead a contingent of South Lakes High School swimmers to the Virginia High School AAA Championship Meet Feb. 17-18 at George Mason University.

Sennett finished fourth in the girls 100-yard butterfly (58.08) and fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:10:17) at the Northern Region Swim and Dive Championships at Oak Marr Rec Center on Saturday.

Sophomore Sasha Avilov swam a 24.06 in the 50 free to qualify for the state meet. Senior Sierra Scoggin will be competing at states in the 200 IM in addition, as well as the 100 back, 400 free relay and 200 medley relay. Freshman Natalie Obando will advance to the state meet in the 100 back based on her time in the Libetry District meet Jan. 29.

Tiger Barbee finished fifth in the boys 100 free (48.14) to advance to states.

He will also swim the 200 free based on his time (1:46.29) at the Liberty District meet.

Also swimming at the state meet: The girls 200 medley relay team of  Scoggin,   Sennett, Sabrina Groves and Sasha Avilov; the 200 free relay team of Avilov, Kaylyn Macaluso, Madeleine Daum and Sennett; and the girls 400 free relay team.
