With only two regular season games under their belts, the Seahawk girls lacrosse team has doubled its wins from last year.
After starting the season with a 19-13 victory at Falls Church, South Lakes beat Yorktown 12-11 at home Tuesday night.
Yorktown jumped to an early lead when Jennie Basile, Yorktown’s top scorer of the night, put one in with only 1:09 off the clock. However, based on a powerful defense, some incredible goal tending by Lisi Mueller, and numerous goals by Freshman Megan Greatorex and captain Abby Reed, South Lakes led the Patriots at halftime 7-4.

In the second half, Yorktown pulled within one point before additional goals by freshman Maddie Daum and sophomore Jule McCaffrey gave the Seahawks a 10-6 lead. With less than two minutes left in the game, Emily Spack tossed one into the net for Yorktown tying the game 11-11.
With the clock on the field, the go-ahead goal was scored by the Seahawks on a sequence involving a defensive turnover by senior captain Katie Horlacher with a feed to Daum, who passed it off to Maria Leith for the victory.

Scoring for South Lakes were junior Jenna Anderson and senior Jessie Sells. South Lakes plays at Herndon on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Boys soccer: South Lakes boys tied Robert E. Lee 2-2 on Monday. Denis Gonzalez South Lakes had the lone score in the first half . Mitch Dempster scored with an assist from Tyler Hutchins.
Boys tennis: The Seahawks earned their first team victory since ealry in the 2009 season when they defeated Stone Bridge 7-2 in their regular-season opener on Tuesday. Read more about
