Seahawks baseball completes season sweep of TJ.

The South Lakes High School baseball team defeated Thomas Jefferson  9-5 on Tuesday for its second win over the Colonials this season.

The Seahawks (4 -10) got off to a fast start with a two-run blast by freshman Kyle King – his second home run in as many games. Junior pitcher Bobby Rae Allen worked around two first inning hits by the Colonials (2-11) - thanks to a double play started and completed by senior third baseman Austin Schweppe -  and a caught-stealing by freshman catcher Jared Abelson.

Allen pitched four solid innings and helped his own cause by picking off two runners at first base.  The Seahawks scored in each of the first six innings and took a 4-2 lead in the third inning after an RBI single by Schweppe that scored sophomore JoJo Lear.

South Lakes extended the lead to 6-3 in the fourth inning thanks to doubles by Austin Gibbons and Ryan Forrest and an RBI by Lear.  Allen gave up two earned runs in four innings and was relieved by Lear in the fifth inning.

After the first two Colonials reached base, Abelson picked off the runner straying too far from second base to halt the rally.  The Seahawks tacked on two more runs in the fifth thanks to a two-RBI double by Allen.  In the seventh inning, South Lakes brought in senior Billy McLaughlin to preserve the win for Allen and the Seahawks.

Girls soccer - The Seahawks lost 1-0 to McLean at home on Tuesday.

South Lakes' next game is Tuesday, May 1, at 7 p.m. at SLHS.

Boys soccer - South Lakes defeated McLean 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday. The Seahawks are now 4-3-3, 2-0-2 Liberty District.

Girls lacrosse -  The South Lakes Varsity Girls Lacrosse gave defending state champions James Madison a scare Wednesday night, but ended up losing 17-14 in the last home game for the Seahawks.

The night started with seniors Sami Chamberlin, Lara Duffy, Katie Horlacher, and Abby Reed all being honored before a large and appreciative home crowd.  The Seahawks struck first with early goals from Kenzie Hughes and Megan Greatorex, who both went on to score hat tricks in the first half.

Abby Reed added two more, and along with goals from Sami Chamberlin and Jule McCaffrey, the Seahawks went into half time with a 10-7 lead over the Warhawks.  The Seahawks consistently controlled the draw and the defense once again turned in an outstanding performance.

The Warhawks came out strong in the second half, putting up seven unanswered goals before defender Lara Duffy went coast to coast and drop one in to give the Seahawks a spark resulting in three more goals.

Goalie Lisi Mueller, who had an excellent night in the goal, was removed with just under five minutes in the game for what turned out to be a concussion and was replaced by Katherine Miller.

The Seahawks travel to McLean High School Thursday night for another district match up.

Tennis - Both the boys and girls teams lost 9-0 to McLean on Wednesday.
