South Lakes Boys Indoor Track Seals Third Straight Regional Title

Price's triple jump, 4 x 400 relay lead the Seahawks.

South Lakes' boys indoor track team won the Northern Region title - its third straight - on Saturday at George Mason University. 

The Seahawks scored 71 points to lead the 30-team field.  Annandale was the runner-up with 62 points.  

South Lakes won the 4 x 400 meter (Ian Angara, Corey Gilmore, Jacob Grundahl, and Armando Drain) to seal the team victory.

 Sean Price won a region title in the triple jump and placed second in the 55- meter dash  and the long jump. 

Ian Angara was region runner-up in the 500 meters.  Gilmore placed third in the triple jump and was eighth in the 300.   Drain placed third in the 55-meter hurdles.

 Will Sickenberger aadvaned to the state meet with a sixth place in the 1600- meter run.  Nick Guarnaccia also placed sixth in the 3200.   The boys 4 x 800 meter relay team of Alex Clough, Austin Leggett, Michael McHugh, and Jacob Grundahl placed third and advances to the state meet.  The boys 4 x 200 team (Gilmore, Stepfon Sanford, Connor Metcalf,  Price) finished seventh.

The girls team placed 13th.  Kyannah Calhoun placed fourth in the 500-meter.   She also placed sixth in the 300 meters.   The girls 4 x 400 meter relay (Kristin Tran, Haley Vaughn, Sreya Kamineni, Calhoun) placed fourth.  The girls 4 x 200 (Naimah Coleman,Tran, Aya Abdelhalim, and Danielle Hale) placed sixth.

Qualifiers advance to the state championship next weekend at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.
