South Lakes Baseball Earns First 2012 Victory

Seahawks rally to defeat Jefferson 6-5.

After being shut out by McLean on Tuesday, the South Lakes Seahawks varsity baseball team bounced back with a come-from-behind 6-5 win against the Thomas Jefferson Colonials (1-2).

The Seahawks (1-2) fell behind early and trailed 5-1 in the third inning against TJ pitcher Michael Chan.   South Lakes came back in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer by senior Billy McLaughlin, a sacrifice fly by junior Hayden Hall and a game-tying RBI single by freshman Kyle King.

Seahawk Pitcher Billy McLaughlin (1-1) responded to the rally with two consecutive 1-2-3 innings, throwing only six pitches in each.  After escaping a jam in the top of the sixth inning, the Seahawks responded in the bottom half with a leadoff single by sophomore Justin Cosing, who then stole second.  McLaughlin helped his own cause again by doubling in the game-winning run.  McLaughlin had another strong outing and shut down the Colonials over the final four innings, yielding only two hits, to earn the complete-game victory.
