SLHS Track Teams Win Districts

Boys and girls dominate Liberty meet.

South Lakes High School's boys and girls track teams each won the Liberty District meet, which wrapped up Wednesday at South Lakes.

Both teams won by very large margins.  The girls won by nearly 100 points over the other seven teams, while the boys won by over 60 points.

There were numerous all district honors and several individual district championships earned.

Girls District Champions include Danielle Hale in the high jump, long jump, 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash; Kyannah Calhoun in the 400 meter dash; Augusta Durham in the 800 meter run; Devin Nieusma in the 3200 meter run; Sumiya Yates in the shot put:; and the girls 4 x 400 meter relay of Emily Lopynski, Haley Vaughn, Claire Nieusma, and Grace Gillen.

 Boys district champions included:  Rashaan Jones in the long jump, high jump, and the 100 meter dash; Corey Gilmore in the triple jump; Connor Metcalf in the 200 meter dash; the boys 4 x 100 meter relay of Elias Ingea, Aeron Thai, Connor Metcalf, and Brian Brinson; and the boys 4 x 400 meter relay of Ian Angara, Aren Durana, Corey Gilmore, and Armando Drain.

New district meet records were set by the boys 4 x 100 meter relay and Danielle Hale in the long jump.

On other sports news, South Lakes defeated Fairfax 8-7 on the Liberty District baseball tournament Weddnesday. The Seahawks will play at Marshall Thursday night.
