SLHS Swimmers Wrap Up State Meet

Seniors Sennett, Barbee and freshman Obando place in VHSL's top 10.

Anthony “Tiger” Barbee, Emily Sennett and Natalie Obando capped off their trip to the VHSL AAA Swim Meet with Top 10 finishes in Saturday's finals at George Mason University’s Jim McKay Natatorium.

Senior  Barbee had a great meet in the preliminaries Friday night.  In the finals on Saturday night, Barbee placed 13th in the 100-yard Freestyle with a time of 48.48, improving over his time in the preliminaries. He also placed eighth overall in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 1:43.65, which was also faster than his time in the preliminaries.

Senior Emily Sennett, the only state qualifier from SLHS from last year, also swam Saturday.  In the 200-yard Individual Medley, Sennett placed 10th overall with a time of 2:10.29.  She also placed 11th overall in the 100-yard Butterfly, with a time of 58.17.

“I liked how we swam this season,” Brown said after finals.  “Our goal as coaches was to have as many swimmers as possible in districts, regionals and states.  We had three swimmers in individual events make state finals this year, which was the best since 2005. We haven’t had this many athletes at States in a long, long time.”
