Baseball team goes 1-1 in weekend tournament.

South Lakes baseball opened it season by going 1-1 at the Herndon High School Tournament over the weekend.

The Seahawks lost the first game to Kettle Run 6-0. 

 The Seahawks managed only one hit, a seventh-inning single to left from Billy McLaughlin.  McLaughlin was the only Seahawk baserunner of the evening.

John Beck started and went five  innings giving up three runs on two hits.  Ryan Forrest finished up with two innings of relief.

In Saturday's game, South Lakes defeated Fauquier 10-4.

The Seahawks scored five runs in the first and went on to finish with a 10-4 victory.

Leadoff batter Ryan Forrest paced the Seahawks with a three-hit performance including a solo home run, double and single.  Rightfielder David Odlen and first baseman Austin Gibbons also contributed key hits, and each had three RBIs.

Other key Seahawk bats were Billy McLaughlin (one hit, two runs), Nick Beaulac (three runs, one RBI), Will Sweet (double, one RBI), and Nathan Vellayan (one hit).

Will Sweet started and pitched four innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs for the win.  David Odlen pitched the final three innings with 6 Ks.

In other sports news:

* Boys tennis lost to Langley 7-2. Both of South Lakes' match wins came in doubles.

* A belated congratulations to senior Sean Price, who finished second in the long jump at the indoor track and field finals Feb. 26.

Price jumped 22-4.5 to finish as the runner-up. He also placed fourth in the triple jump. Price will be competing in outdoor track this spring. Price recently signed to play football next year at Appalachian State.

Also finishing fourth at the state meet was the boys 4 x 400 meter relay team of Ian Angara, Corey Gilmore, Jacob Grundahl, and Armando Drain.

Boys lacrosse:  South Lakes varsity boys defeated Stone Bridge 8-7 on March 17.

Coming off a 16-4 win over George Mason , the Seahawks had goals from Nolan Boyle, Alex Clough, Harrison Hughes, John Oakes, Alex Rofail, and Dan Stromecki. The defense held  Stone Bridge star attackman Dylan Maltz to a single goal.

Exceptional performances by attackman Alex Clough, defenseman Harrison Drier, and new goalie Alex Tucker complemented the concerted team effort that produced the victory.

The Seahawks play at Marshall on Friday.
