Regional Run Ends for Reston National

After falling to West Virginia, All-Stars will wrap up extended postseason with consolation game Tuesday.

ended Monday in Warner Robins, GA, where they lost to Fairmont, WVA, 11-3 in Southeast Region pool play.

The 4 p.m. game was delayed by rain for nearly two hours with West Virginia up by eight runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Reston finishes pool play 1-2, and will not advance to Wednesday's semifinals. The team of 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars finish in third place in Pool A and will play in a consolation game Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Reston National won the Virginia state championship in Leesburg two weeks ago, becoming the first Reston Little League team in 13 years to advance to the Southeast Regional.

In Warner Robins, the team beat Friday, then lost to top on Saturday.

In Monday's game, Reston was down 3-2 after the first inning, and West Virginia steadily added to its lead to go up 7-2 by the fifth inning. In the fourth left two runners on base.

In the bottom of the fifth, Reston loaded the bases. Xander Bohnslav walked, scoring Sam Kidd. With two outs, the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate, left fielder Antonio Menendez struck out swinging, and the teams went into the sixth inning with West Virginia ahead 7-3.

West Virginia scored four runs in the top of the sixth, including a three-run homer by Greg Yearance, who had six RBI Monday. West Virginia was leading Virginia 11-3 with two outs and a runner on first when the rain fell.

West Virginia advances to a Wednesday semifinal meeting with the to-be-determined winner of Pool B. The winner of the entire tournament earns a place in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.
