Lacrosse: SLHS Girls Top Washington-Lee

Seahawks beat Generals, 12-9.

The girls lacrosse team racked up its fifth win of the season Tuesday, defeating Washington-Lee 12-9.

The Seahawks produced a balanced attack in the first half, totaling six goals with two coming from Jule McCaffrey. Also key: two goals from Kenzie Hughes, two assists from Maria Leith, and a goal each from Abby Reed and Maddie Daum.  However, the Generals also produced six goals, with two coming from Carrie Maggio and three coming from Morgan Burns who went on to score a total of five goals. 

To start the second half, Meaghan Greatorex went on a 3-0 scoring drive for South Lakes, which also had assists from Daum and McCaffrey.  After the Generals put another one on the board, Greatorex went on to score again, McCaffrey had two more and Daum had another assist giving the Seahawks a decisive 12-9 victory.

Leading the Seahawks' defense was freshman Katie Thomas. The team also had five forced turnovers from Lara Duffy and 13 saves from goalie Lisi Mueller.

The Seahawks improve to 5-1 heading into their remaining Liberty District matches, which currently includes three teams ranked in the top 10.
