Lacrosse: Season Ends for SLHS Girls

Seahawks ousted by Stone Bridge in Liberty District Tournament.

girls lacrosse team ended its season on Friday with an 18-11 loss to Stone Bridge in the Liberty District Tournament.

Stone Bridge, the fourth seed, jumped out to a 2-0 lead over South Lakes, the No. 5 seed. South Lakes’ offense kicked in and for the remainder of the half, the two teams traded goals back and forth. 

With less than five minutes remaining in the half, a quick score from Sami Chamberlin and a coast-to-coast goal from Gabrielle Parisi put the score at 8-5 Stone Bridge.

But the responded with three quick goals of their own in the last two minutes of the half giving them a six-point lead going into the second period. 

The Seahawks regrouped at halftime, and goals from Kenzie Hughes and Maria Leith closed the gap to just four points. Megan Greatorex had four consecutive second-half goals, but in the end the Bulldogs prevailed 18-11.

 This season provided a number of highlights including a new coach, a strong freshman class, and its first winning season in many years (6-5 Overall, 2-5 Liberty District). 

In addition, the Seahawks saw a number of players receive individual honors Friday when the Liberty District All District Honors were released. Among those Honorees were Megan Greatorex and Abby Reed (Second Team All District) and Kenzie Hughes, Gabrielle Parisi, Laura Duffy and Lisi Mueller, (Honorable Mention).
