Indoor Track: SLHS Wins Liberty District

Jones clears seven feet in high jump again to set new district record.

South Lakes' Rashaan Jones set a new Liberty District record wtih a high jump of 7-0 at the Liberty District Indoor Track Championships at Prince George's Sportsplex on Thursday.

The Seahawks' boys and girls teams both won the team title. The girls scored 142 points.  Madison placed second with 82. The boys scored 144 points.  Langley finished second with 66.

Girls' individual champions on day two included Danielle Hale in the triple jump; Naimah Coleman in the 300 meter dash; the girls 4 x 200 meter relay team of Naimah Coleman, Kristin Tran, Aya Abdelhalim, and Danielle Hale; and the girls 4 x 400 relay team of Naimah Coleman, Haley Vaughn, Claire Nieusma, and Grace Gillen.

Boys' individual champions on day two included Jones in the high jump; Corey Gilmore in the triple jump; Armando Drain in the 500 meter dash and the 300 meter dash; Jacob Grundhal in the 1000 meter run; and the 4 x 200 meter relay team of Zac Parker, Brian Brinson, Aeron Thai, and Connor Metcalf.

In addition to Jones' district record, the girls' and boys' 4 x 200 meter relay teams also set a new Liberty mark.

The athletes move on the the Northen Regionals, Feb. 18 at George Mason University.
