Herndon High Graduate Drafted By MLB

The rising college freshman has approximately one month to decide whether to take the contract, or keep his commitment to James Madison University.

 

Fans could soon be shouting the name of a former Herndon High Hornet at major league baseball games.

The Augusta Free Press reported Monday that rising James Madison University freshman and Herndon High School graduate Ky Parrott was selected  Saturday in the 26th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

The Press said Parrott has "until July 12 to determine whether to sign [the] MLB contract or maintain the JMU commitment that [he] signed in November."

Parrott's contract offer was from the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Press touted Parrott's impressive history playing sports for Herndon High.

"The 5'9", 180-pound center fielder just finished his senior season playing for former JMU standout Greg Miller at Herndon High School. He hit .291 while leading the team with four home runs.  He added 16 runs and 11 RBIs while being named First Team All-District and Second Team All-Region. Parrott was also the starting quarterback for the Hornets as a sophomore and junior," the publication wrote.
