Foster Elected Softball League Commissioner

South Lakes grad and coach Jordan Foster will lead Herndon Reston Youth Softball.

Herndon Reston Youth Softball (HRYS) has elected new officers, including the appointment of Jordan Foster as the HRYS League Commissioner as the league enters a new expansion phase. Coach Foster will assume the leadership role from Coach Bob Thomas who retired as commissioner in December to facilitate league clinics and training.

Foster,a Reston native, graduated from George Mason University and has been active in softball for 15 years. She played house league for Reston Youth Softball and was a member of the Reston Redbirds travel organization.  She was a four-year varsity player at South Lakes High School. She is entering her second year as SLHS' assistant junior varsity coach. She also coaches HRYS teams.

In addition to Foster’s appointment, the board elected soach Melissa Pickell as registrar and coach Chris Anderson as secretary, to replace registrar/coach Steve Wieczorek and secretary/coach Peter Young, whose terms were completed.

HRYS is a girls’ fastpitch softball league serving players ages 6 to 18 in the Herndon-Reston area.

It's exciting to see female leadership of women's sports organizations, particularly by someone I have had the pleasure of coaching. Congratulations, Jordan! I know you'll do a great job.

It is a wonderful opportunity for the young athletes in the program to have Ms. Foster leading the way. Her years of experience playing softball at the Travel and High School levels is a valuable asset to the league. Congratulations Jordan!

With her extensive experience as both a player and coach, all of us on the HRYS board feel Jordan is a great selection to be Commissioner. She’ll take the baton from Bob Thomas, who built the league into one of the most respected programs in the mid-Atlantic. The HRYS program is renowned, not only for its success in skill development and team-building, but also for its emphasis on making character and sportsmanship top priorities among the girls who participate. Jordan is perfect for the job as we enter a new phase of expansion...
