Refresh Rwanda: Water for Life 5K Race

Water related diseases are the second biggest killer of children world-wide. However, 90% of these water related diseases are simply due to the fact that people do not have clean water. This is a catastrophe that 1.8 million children die each year as a result of a water related disease; that is 5,000 children a day. In underdeveloped parts of the world, the average distance a child or mother has to walk to get water is 3.2 miles, just over a 5k, leaving children unable to go to school and mothers prone to being sold into slavery. Join us on November 10, 2012 at 8:30 AM at South Lakes High School’s track to bring hope to Rwanda by running the distance that they walk to bring them clean water. Southview Community Church has partnered with Compassion International to raise money for portable water filters. There will be demonstrations of the water filter, post-race food, music, and a community event after the race at Southview Community Church. The race will start and finish on South Lakes High School track as runners make their way through the trails. Donations for water filters are welcomed to reach our goal of 500 water filters, but not required. Awards will be given out to the top 3 male/female runners, free t-shirts will be provided to participants, a prize drawing will be held after the race, and a guest runner will be leading off the race! Come out to accept the challenge, be a part of something bigger than yourself, and refresh Rwanda with water for life!
