Boys Basketball: Seahawks Fall to Jefferson

Late-game free throws give TJ narrow victory.

A pair of late free throws gave Thomas Jefferson a 55-54 victory over South Lakes on Saturday.

Jefferson’s size advantage with Daniel Barnes on the inside proved to be just enough to overcome South Lakes scoring tandem of JD Wallace and Mitchell Dempster, who scored 20 and 17 points respectively.

The game was close throughout, with neither team gaining a significant lead.

In the closing moments and with South Lakes nursing a one-point lead, the Colonials got the ball inside to Barnes, who drew a foul on Seahawks center Brendan Galbraith, his fifth. Barnes stepped to the line and knocked down both free throws, giving Jefferson the win.

"I'm a little disappointed. I wish we would've played better," said South Lakes coach Andrew Duggan.

J.D. Wallace led the Seahawks in scoring with a game-high 20 points while Mitchell Dempster added 17.

The loss drops South Lakes under .500 at 8-9 after it had won two straight. The Seahawks return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Stone Bridge, whom they defeated earlier this month, 69-64.
