Basketball: South Lakes Girls Topple Madison

Rendle leads Seahawks for a 10-point victory.

South Lakes High School came back from a one-point halftime deficit Friday to defeat James Madison 55-45 in a league game that solidified the Seahawks place atop the Liberty District.

The team improves to 13-2 (6-1 Liberty) and first place in the conference. Madison is now 6-5 (4-2 Liberty).

South Lakes outscored the Warhawks 30-19 in the second half to pull away with the win.

The close score was a far cry from the teams' most recent memorable matchup in 2012, when Madison took the Liberty District title from South Lakes with a 78-47 win.

The Seahawks, ranked No. 19 by the Washington Post, were led by junior center Abigail Rendle, who led all scorers with 16 points. She also added 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season.

Sophomore forward Princess Aghayere had her second double-double of the season, adding 10 points, 11 rebounds and two assists.

Madison was led by Megan Leduc and Adian McWeeney, each with 10 points.

Next up: South Lakes hosts McLean at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Madison hosts Fairfax at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
