Basketball: SLHS' Teams End With Victories

Varsity girls, boys end regular-season with wins over Stone Bridge.

Every player on South Lakes High School's varsity girls basketball team scored as the Seahawks cruised to a 74-42 victory at home over Stone Bridge on Friday.

It was Senior Night for the team's only senior, Emily Lopynski, who had a game-high seven assists, as well as 12 points and two rebounds.

Sophomore guard Caitlin Jensen added 14 points (including four three-pointers), five assists and three rebounds. Gabrielle Schultz scored 12 points, had nine rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block. Center Abigail Rendle added 10 points, 11 rebounds and one block. Mary Severin had a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Seahawks finish the regular season with a 14-7 record (9-5 Liberty District) and earn the No. 3 seed in the district tournament. They will host Langley on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.

The South Lakes boys basketball team closed out its regular season with a 58-52 win at Stone Bridge High School Friday night. The Seahawks were paced by Jordan Francis with 14 points, Mitch Dempster with 11 points and Junior Ebott with 10 points.

The Seahawks are now 15-6 overall and 10-4 in the Liberty District, good enough for a third pace finish in the District.  They will play Thomas Jefferson at home at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the Liberty District tournament.
