Basketball: SLHS Girls Win Fourth Straight

Seahawks keep Marshall winless in Liberty DIstrict play.

South Lakes High School's girls basketball team won its fourth straight game, topping visiting Marshall 43-35 on Tuesday.

After being down 42-22, the Statesmen (5-8, 0-5 Liberty) went on a 13-1 run in the fourth quarter. 

The Seahawks held on though, led by Abigail Rendle with a game-high 13 points. The sophomore also added seven rebounds and five blocks for South Lakes (9-3, 4-1 Liberty District)

Lone senior Emily Lopynski provided a strong spark throughout the game, and finished with 11 points, two rebounds, and one assist. Caitlin Jensen, who has nailed at least one three pointer in all 11 games this season, (26 threes on the season), hit two threes for six game points.  Jensen also added two rebounds.

Gabrielle Schultz scored six points, and grabbed three rebounds and added oneassist. Natalie Toma scored four points, and finished with two rebounds, and one assist.   Mary Severin snagged a game-high 11 rebounds, had three points, and added two assists.

Sasha Sprei grabbed a "guard high" six rebounds, and added a game-high four assists for the Seahawks. Diana Mazid, Chauntell Dunbar, Kirsten Cornwell, and Colette Toma, all contributed to the home victory

The Seahawks will next host  Madison on Friday, Jan. 13 at 7:30pm. All members, (boys and girls), of our Reston Youth Basketball teams are invited to attend and will get in free with a paying adult if they wear their RYB shirt.
