Basketball: SLHS Girls Open With Victory

The South Lakes High School girls basketball team defeated Westfield 44-33 in its season opener at home on Tuesday.

South Lakes' defense forced 28 turnovers; 14 of which were steals for the Seahawks. Senior G/F Mary Severin powered the Seahawks defense with five steals and eight rebounds. Natalie Toma led all South Lakes   corers with 13 points, (4/7 fg) and added two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Caitlin Jensen scored the first five points for South Lakes in the first minute of the game. She finished with 10 points, two assists, two rebounds, and four steals.

Next up for South Lakes: at West Springfield, 7 p.m. on Thursday for the opening game of the West Springfield Tip-Off Tournament.

Boys basketball - The Seahawks open the season Thursday at home against Oakton. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
