Basketball: SLHS Girls Go 1-1 in Tourney Play

Seahawks finish up West Springfield Tournament on Tuesday, while boys team travels to Osbourn Park.

The South Lakes High School Girls Basketball team went 1-1 in the first two rounds of the West Springfield Tip Off Tournament.

In the first game, played Thursday, South Lakes lost to host West Springfield 44-43.

Neither team led by more than two possessions throughout the game, and South Lakes had a five-point lead at the half. The Seahawks held a one-point lead with less than 30 seconds remaining, but West Springfield got a shot to fall with 13 seconds to go to take the lead by one.

A scrappy defensive play with three seconds remaining sealed the game for West Springfield. 

Abigail Rendle scored a team-high 10 points on 6/10 shooting. She added five rebounds, four blocks,  four steals, and one assist.

Senior G/F Mary Severin again had an impressive defensive game, and finished with five steals and eight rebounds.  

In Saturday's game, the Seahawks defeated Chantilly 68-37 to improve their season record to 2-1.

Caitlin Jensen led all scorers with 21 points. She also had three assists, three rebounds and three steals.

Rendle was 6-for-6 from the floor and finished with 12 points, three rebounds, five steals and four blocks.

Gabrielle Schultz contributed nine points, nine rebounds and two steals.

The Seahawks will play Woodson at Woodson in the tournament final at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Boys basketball - After losing their opener on Thursday to Oakton by one point (51-49), the Seahawks  came back to defeat Centreville 65-46 on Friday.

The Seahawks were led by Brandon Kamaga, who had 16 points against Centreville and 20 points against Oakton.

The 1-2 Seahawks will play at Osbourn Park at 7 p.m on Tuesday.
