Basketball: SLHS Girls End McLean's Streak

Seahawks stop Highlanders 11-game run with 53-45 victory at home.

South Lakes High School's girls basketball team ended McLean's 11-game winning streak with a 53-45 victory at South Lakes on Friday.

With the victory, the Seahawks, ranked No. 18 by the Washington Post, improve to 14-2 overall (7-1 Liberty District). McLean is 12-4, 6-2 Liberty. 

McLean scored at the buzzer to end the first quarter tied at 16. But the Seahawks outscored the Highlanders 37-29 the rest of the way to keep their hold on the top spot in the conference.

Junior guard Caitlin Jensen led South Lakes with 14 points. She had a game-high three three-pointers and also had three rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Sophomore Princess Aghayere had her third double-double of the season, with 10 points, 11 rebounds and a steal.

Guard Sasha Sprei added nine points and five assits and center Abigail Rendle had nine points and six rebounds.

McLean was led by Lisa Murphy with 15 points 

Next up for the Seahawks: at Langley on Tuesday. McLean hosts Madison on Tuesday.

Boys basketball - the Seahawks were held to just 30 points in a 55-30 loss at McLean Friday. It was the fourth straight loss for the Seahawks (6-10 overall, 3-5 Liberty).
