Baseball: South Lakes Shut Out Twice

Rough week for Seahawks as regular season winds down.

The Seahawks dropped two games this past week against a couple of Liberty District elite teams.

The highlight from Tuesday’s 13-0 loss to Madison (13-5) was the first pitch being thrown out by Dr. Alli Guleria of Seahawk baseball Grand Slam sponsor Guleria Orthodontics.

As for the game, after a nice sliding catch by freshman catcher Jared Abelson on a failed sacrifice bunt in the first inning, the Seahawks defense let down junior pitcher Bobby Rae Allen with countless errors in the loss.

Friday’s game against the Stone Bridge Bulldogs (13-4) saw a much stronger defensive effort by the Seahawks (4-12) but offense could only muster four hits in a 6-0 loss.

Sophomore Justin Cosing led the offense with two hits with Abelson and junior Austin Gibbons adding singles.  Senior pitcher Billy McLaughlin pitched a complete game and got some defensive help by a diving catch in left field by junior Hayden Hall.

The final two regular-season games are next week, including the final home game on Friday, May 11 against Marshall High School.  That will be the final Free Admission Friday of the season where youth baseball players wearing their team jersey (Little League, Cal Ripken) or South Lakes blue and green are admitted free with a paying adult.
