Ten runners from Reston completed the Boston Marathon Monday, one year after explosions rocked the event, taking lives and injuring hundreds of runners and spectators.

In all, six women and four men from McLean ran the 26.2-mile race. The top local finisher was Andrew Ciarfalia, who finished in 2:48:58. The top female finisher from Reston was Jessica Hofheimer, who finished in 3:11:56.

One Northern Virginian was a top-50 finisher –Michael R. Wardian finished in 2:23:32 for 44th place overall. Wardian is from Arlington.

Ultra-marathoner (and also Arlington resident) Frank Fumich also ran and finished in 3:36:02. Fumich ran with his Florida-based friend Matt Nelson from the Pentagon to the finish line of the Boston Marathon last year to raise money for Boston Marathon bombing victims.

This story could be so much better. I have a great friend from Burke who ran the Boston Marathon on Monday and to hear her explain why she did it and the emotional atmosphere of the whole day is so amazing. You could have really brought this story to life... talk to the runners and do better research on the area runners who participated!
